HoABL Completes Crest Nine Community Clubhouse

Sanjay Puri Architects has completed Crest Nine, a 32,000-square-foot clubhouse at Tomorrow Land Anjarle, featuring parabolic forms clad in locally-sourced laterite stone that gives the building a warm red tone resonating with the soil and rock of coastal Maharashtra. The project is situated on a coastal hillside overlooking the Arabian Sea in Anjarle, a village in Dapoli taluka, Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra.

Design and Spatial Strategy

The architecture transitions from a restrained curved entrance wall into a sequence of larger parabolic forms that step across the hillside. The roof structure plays an important role in shaping the spatial experience, with its sectional profile rising above the main volumes and dipping toward the courtyards between them, forming deep overhangs that shade the decks and provide protection during intense sun and seasonal monsoon rains while maintaining open views across the site.

Facilities and Community Functions

Three pools, a health club, and an open cafeteria share the main level, with a broad deck designed for informal gatherings and outdoor activity. The design creates multiple interior and exterior zones that support both active recreation and quiet retreat within a single hillside setting.

Environmental Performance

Nearly seventy percent of the built area operates through natural ventilation rather than mechanical cooling, supported by the open courtyards and cross ventilation across the decks, with daylight reaching every interior space to reduce dependence on artificial lighting during the day. The roof structure uses a metal framework finished with shingles, while local labor and regional materials contribute to a lower embodied carbon footprint.

Location and Context

Tomorrow Land Anjarle encompasses 40+ acres on Maharashtra's pristine Konkan shoreline near Dapoli. Anjarle is known for its unspoiled beach and from February to May, hosts a festival called the Turtle Festival, where young hatchlings of olive ridley sea turtles are released back into the ocean. Dapoli lies 215 km south of the state capital of Mumbai.
